Take it one day at a time. Don’t push her. Don’t tell her she’s crazy either. I got robbed at gun point when I was 17 and I’m still in therapy for it. I hate when people tell me to get over it and that I’m crazy. Don’t do that. It something she has to deal with and everyone is different and reacts differently to stress.

Oops, that should be ‘Camella’ not ‘Carmella’ (corrected – you can just make it out on the sign in the centre). I like to think of Camella as a demonically-possessed, kitten-eating, pink camel-type monster that preys on children. But that’s just me.

And yes, I think I threw up a little in my mouth as I walked past this store.

Very true. I confessed to one of my colleagues how much I paid for my new lens. He couldn’t believe it – thought I was crazy (“you know you can buy 10 cameras for that price, right?” was written all over his face).

But the real danger is how addictive camera buying is. There’s no end point. There’s always a next camera and a next lens or a next accessory. It will be the financial death of us all

@MoreAltitude; I promise to post pics of my house and from around the old city just as soon as I have a few days to get snapping. It doesn’t help that I still don’t have interent at home, so not much time for posting.

@Laura: I replaced my tragically deceased (http://ash.clem.com.au/?p=1409) Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L with a new twin. I considered going for a more versatile 24-70 or something, but in the end 16mm @ 2.8 is just too good not to have in your bag, so I had to get one again.

True. It was a cheap fix, relatively speaking. Wasn’t anticipating turning around 10 days later and having to replace/upgrade the body too, but I’m hovering dangerously close to the moan and whine state here myself.

I keep reminding myself how this is a hobby for the wealthy. My driver in Zambia couldn’t take up the hobby if he wanted to and it’s a privilege to have the resources to be creative, even if it is a sacrifice.

I had a discussion emerge on my husband’s facebook page when we were in the midst of this camera dilemma about Canon vs Nikon. Nice to see someone else has an affection for Canon.

Ah, tragedy. But, i know how you feel. That sinking feeling when I found my shattered 16-35… ;(

But on the bright side, at least the 50mm is pretty cheap to replace.

Our 50mm lens is in two pieces thanks to a jump off the top of a Land Cruiser in Zambia. At least the shot was worth it. Hoping to replace it this month.

It’s a good idea Shawn. Wish I’d thought of it before the ‘incident’. The truth is I am always trying to cut corners to reduce the size and weight of my luggage. So anything as bulky and heavy as the pelican cases make me a little wary. But I certainly need a solution.
